'It's Good To Talk' Editing and Evaluation.

After we erased the questions from the interview, we added in music to make it more interesting. However, the music, 'Don't stop me now- Queen' held no relevance to the topic which was phones and was too loud, distracting the viewers attention from the interviewee. When creating our documentary and filming interviews to feature within it, we will take this into account and properly plan the song in advance.

Previous to creating our interview and editing it, we hadn't decided fully on a title, but we added in 'It's Good To Talk' last minute. This lacks interest and therefore, when we are creating a title for our documentary we will consider it properly.

We only filmed one cutaway despite planning to film a couple. This meant that we didn't have a set place to put it. To make it more interesting, we should have used a pan or zoom. Other issues with our interview included the following: Our interviewee was not situated in the correct place in relation to the conventional rule of thirds way. We realised after filming that our interviewee should have been slightly more to the right of the frame. The mise-en-scene was distracting as it included film posters and computers which took attention away from the interviewee and what she had to say. Our voiceover did not carry on as the cutaway was played which meant that ultimately it was pointless. The lighting was not conventional and distracting as there was a light shining off our interviewees face. When we asked our interviewee the questions, she did not repeat them or reinforce them within her answer to let the audience know what she was referring to in her answers. Also, the level of sound was far too loud.

Filming 'It's Good To Talk'

When filming our 'It's Good To Talk' interview, we tried to situate our interviewee against a plain background in an attempt for us to maintain the audiences attention on the interviewee. However, we also thought it a good idea in considering the mise-en-scene to include technology within the background and decided to use our media room as the setting. We discovered some noise in the background of our interview on a few accounts and so had to start again. We also filmed our cutaway in the common room to show the popularity of phones among teenagers.

Planning 'It's Good To Talk'

When planning our 'It's Good To Talk' interview, we were asked to consider cutaways, props, mise en scene and an interviewee to feature. We decided to use a background that was either plain or had some sort of technology in the background to link in with the topic of phones. We planned to interview Hannah Simmons and have her read the questions beforehand so we could get an idea of what her answers would be, to then plan the cutaways that would seperate each answer. When asked of the phones she had had in the past, we planned to have a cutaway of a pan of her phones in a line. We also planned to have cutaways of students in the common room using their phones from a distance and then zooming in on them. We also planned to have cutaways of different features of the phone in use, for instance texts and blackberry messages. We planned to situate her on the right side of the rule of thirds with her eye line conventionally slightly away from the camera looking at the interviewer. The storyboard we originally planned to guide us whilst filming our interview was this one:

However, we realised that our interview was going to lack a range of cutaways and did not require credits at the end and therefore planned a new one.
